v

Special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented to facilitate the military review of the Hong Kong Garrison at Shek Kong Barracks between 10.30am and 11.30am on August 1, 2004.

A government spokesman said today (July 30) that the following two special bus services would be provided by KMB:

Route No. Origin/ Destination Operating Hours Journey Time Frequency Fare
54R Kam Sheung Road WR Station - Shek Kong Barracks From Kam Sheung Road: 7.45 - 9.55am;

From Shek Kong Barracks 11.30am until the crowd dispersed
about 5 minutes 1 minute $3
276R Sheung Shui KCR station-Shek Kong Barracks From Sheung Shui KCR Station: 7.15-9.30am;

From Shek Kong Barrack: 11.30am until the crows dispersed
Not less than 30 minutes 3 minutes $10

In addition, from 7.45am onwards until the crowd is dispersed, the following bus stops will be suspended:

* Kam Tin Road outside Shek Kong Barracks (KMB Routes 51, 54, 77K and 251M)
* Kam Tin Road opposite Shek Kong Barracks (KMB Routes 54, 77K and 251M)

Moreover, from 11.30am onwards until the crowd is dispersed, the bus stop at Tung Wui Road outside Ng Ka Tsuen (KMB Routes 54 and 77K) will be suspended.

To facilitate traffic travel to and from Shek Kong Barracks, Shek Kong Airfield Road will be rerouted one-way eastbound from 7.45am to 10.30am and will be rerouted one-way westbound from 11.30am onwards until the crowd dispersed.

The spokesman said, "Only guests' vehicles with special parking permits were allowed to enter Shek Kong Barracks through its northern entrances along Kam Tin Road. Drivers are reminded to take note of the temporary directional signs erected in the vicinity. Guests' vehicles heading towards the Shek Kong Barracks via the Tai Lam Tunnel are advised to travel via Pat Heung Road, Kam Sheung Road and Kam Tin Road after leaving the tunnel.

"Only coaches with special permits carrying organised groups of audiences are permitted to enter the Shek Kong Barracks via the southern entrance at Shek Kong Airfield Road via Tung Wui Road," he added.

Audiences with admission tickets are requested to enter Shek Kong Barracks in strict accordance with the admission time shown on the admission tickets (Those audiences with admission tickets for the northern zone should enter Shek Kong Barracks between 8am and 9am).

As it is expected that the traffic in the vicinity will be very congested, the Government spokesman appealed to people with admission tickets to use public transport like West Rail and the special bus services for access to and depart from Shek Kong Barracks via the temporary southern (1) entrance near Tung Wui Road.

In order to facilitate spectators to attend the military review, Police will deploy adequate manpower to regulate traffic and ensure law and order. Audiences are reminded to be patient and take heed of the advice of the Police, staff of the bus company and inside the Shek Kong Barracks.

Since there will be no public parking facilities in and around Shek Kong Barracks, spectators are urged not to use their private cars. Any illegally parked vehicles will be towed away without prior notice.

Besides, as it is expected that the audience queue for entering the Shek Kong Barracks will be long, and in view of the fact that passengers still need to take a long walk within Shek Kong Barracks after alighting at Tung Wui Road bus stop, audiences with admission tickets are reminded again to enter Shek Kong Barracks according to the admission time stated on the tickets, and reserve sufficient travel time.

The Emergency Transport Co-ordination Centre of the Transport Department will be activated in the morning on August 1 to monitor the transport and traffic situation.

Details of the special traffic and transport arrangements are now available at the "Traffic Notices" of the Department's Homepage (http://www.td.gov.hk/traffic_notices/index.htm).
