Tenders for lighting system invited

   The Highways Department today (June 17) invited tenders for the management, operation, installation and maintenance of the public lighting system on Hong Kong Island and Lamma Island.

    A tender notice was gazetted today and uploaded onto the department's website.

    It is a management-operation-maintenance contract for a term of four years from October, 2005, to September, 2009, covering the design, installation, management, operation and maintenance of the public lighting system on Hong Kong Island and Lamma Island.  

    The public lighting system generally consists of conventional road lighting, village lighting, gantry sign lighting, roadside directional sign lighting and the associated network of cables, ducts and peripheral items.  It also includes the road lighting supplies to traffic bollards.  

    Within the designated contract area, there are about 18,000 lighting points, 3,000 supply points for traffic bollards, 700 lighting points for illuminate gantry signs and roadside directional signs.

    The works will be supervised by the Lighting Division of the Highways Department.
