Traffic and transport arrangements for LCI Convention

Special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented for the 2005 Lions Clubs International (LCI) Convention Parade next Tuesday (June 28) along Convention Avenue, Fenwick Pier Street and Lung Wui Road between the Golden Bauhinia Square and Tamar Site.

"Road closure will be implemented in Wan Chai North during the evening peak hours to facilitate the parade starting at Expo Drive East at 6pm and ending at the Tamar Site around 11pm on June 28," a Transport Department (TD) spokesman said today (June 21).

"We will expect traffic congestion along eastbound Harcourt Road and Gloucester Road corridor and Wanchai North during the event," he added.

Starting from Expo Drive, internal roads around the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) will be closed gradually from 3pm, followed by closure of Lung Wui Road, Tim Mei Avenue, Tim Wa Avenue, Performing Arts Avenue, Fenwick Pier Street, Lung King Street and Convention Avenue implemented from 5pm until midnight on the day.

Some bus routes will be diverted to facilitate the parade while parking spaces and taxi stands around the area will be suspended between 1pm and midnight on June 28.

"Apart from the parade, large-scale conventions will be held in the Hong Kong Coliseum between June 29 and July 1," the spokesman added.

The department will closely monitor the traffic situations during the days by activating the Emergency Transport Co-ordination Centre. Road users are advised to pay attention to the details of the special measures and radio/TV announcements of the updated situations.

Details of road closure as well as special traffic and transport arrangements will be uploaded onto the department's webpage (www.info.gov.hk/td). Enquiry may be made to government hotline 1823.
