Special traffic arrangements for LCI Convention parade

     The Transport Department (TD) has issued a reminder that special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented for the 2005 Lions Clubs International (LCI) Convention Parade tomorrow (June 28) along Convention Avenue, Fenwick Pier Street and Lung Wui Road between the Golden Bauhinia Square and Tamar Site.

    "We will expect traffic congestion along eastbound Harcourt Road, Gloucester Road corridor and Wan Chai North during the event. Motorists are reminded to avoid using relevant roads and passengers are advised to take MTR as far as possible if they have to travel in the affected areas” , a Transport Department spokesman said today (June 27).

    The following special traffic and transport arrangements would be implemented in connection with the holding of the 2005 Lions Clubs International Convention Parade on June 28, 2005:

I. Special traffic arrangements

A. Road closure

From about 3pm to 11.59pm.
(a) Expo Drive;
(b) Expo Drive Central; and
(c) Expo Drive East.

From about 5pm to 11.59pm.
(a) Lung Wui Road;
(b) Tim Mei Avenue except for vehicles entering and leaving Citic Tower car park;
(c) Performing Arts Avenue;
(d) Lung King Street;
(e) Eastbound carriageway of Fenwick Pier Street;
(f) Section of Convention Avenue between Fenwick Pier Street and Fleming Road ; and
(g) Section of Harbour Road between Fleming Road and Fenwick Street (subject to traffic situation).

From about 6pm to 11.59pm.
(a) Tim Wa Avenue except for vehicles of the People’ s Liberation Army (PLA) ; and
(b) Section of Edinburgh Place between City Hall and Connaught Road Central (subject to traffic situation).

B. Traffic diversions

From about 5pm to 11.59pm.
(a) Vehicles leaving Citic Tower car park will be diverted to Tim Mei Avenue and then turn left to Harcourt Road;

(b) Vehicles along Convention Avenue westbound heading for Central will be diverted onto Fleming Road southbound, U-turn slip road under Fleming Road flyover, Fleming Road northbound, Harbour Road westbound, Fenwick Pier Street and flyover;

(c) Vehicles on Harbour Road westbound heading for Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and Grand Hyatt Hotel will be allowed to turn right near Wan Chai Tower.

C. Suspension of parking spaces and taxi stands

From about 1pm to 11.59pm.
(a) Public bus parking spaces on Expo Drive East; and
(b) Taxi stand on Expo Drive East

From about 5pm to 11.59pm.
(a) Motorcycle and metered parking spaces in Lung King Street;
(b) Taxi Stand on Tim Mei Avenue


II. Public transport arrangements

A. Suspension and relocation of bus terminus

    The bus terminus on Expo Drive East will be suspended from 1pm till the re-opening of roads. During the suspension period, the terminal points of KMB route 961 and Citybus routes 25A and 25C will be temporarily relocated to Wan Chai Ferry Pier Bus Terminus.

B. Bus diversion    

    The following bus diversions and bus stop arrangements will be implemented from about 5pm to the last departure :

(a) The Tin Wan bound journeys of NWFB route 46X will be diverted to operate via Cotton Tree Drive, Queensway, Hennessy Road, Johnston Road, Fleming Road and Hennessy Road in lieu of Tim Wa Avenue, Lung Wui Road, Harbour Road and Wan Chai Ferry Pier Bus Terminus. Replacement bus stops will be provided at Queensway outside United Centre and on Johnston Road outside Southorn Playground;

(b) The Aldrich Bay bound journeys of NWFB route 2 will be diverted to operate via Hennessy Road and Yee Wo Street in lieu of Gloucester Road, Victoria Park Road and Causeway Bay flyover. Replacement bus stops will be provided at Hennessy Road eastbound near Fenwick Street, near O' Brien Road, west of Stewart Road, east of Tonnochy Road and outside Sogo Department Store;

(c) The Aberdeen bound journeys of Citybus route 70 will be diverted to operate via Hennessy Road, Fleming Road, Wan Chai Road, Morrison Hill Road and Wong Nai Chung Road in lieu of Gloucester Road. Replacement bus stop will be provided at Hennessy Road eastbound near O’ Brien Road; and

(d) The Pak Tin bound journeys of Cross Harbour route 104 will be diverted to operate via Gloucester Road in lieu of Wan Chai Ferry Pier and Harbour Road. Subject to demand, bus company will operate special departures of route 104 at Harbour Road from 5pm onwards. On the other hand, affected passengers may also take the bus route at the bus stop at Gloucester Road outside Immigration Tower.

    Appropriate traffic aids will be erected to guide motorists and notices will be displayed by public transport operators to advise passengers of the above arrangements. Actual implementation of the road closure, traffic and public transport diversions will be made by the Police at the time depending on conditions in the areas. Members of the public are advised to use public transport services and avoid driving to the affected areas. Motorists should exercise tolerance and patience in cases of traffic congestion and take heed of instructions of the Police.

    TD will closely monitor the traffic situations by activating the Emergency Transport Co-ordination Centre. Road users were advised to pay attention to the details of the special measures and radio/TV announcements of the most updated situations.
