Special traffic arrangement for LCI Convention on July 1

    The Transport Department (TD) has reminded the public that special traffic arrangement will be implemented in the vicinity of Hong Kong Coliseum in Hung Hom tomorrow (July 1).

    In order to facilitate the 88th Lions Clubs International (LCI) Convention at Hong Kong Coliseum, the department announced today (June 30) that the following special traffic arrangements would be implemented:

* Suspension of Parking Spaces

    The following metered coach parking spaces will be suspended between 7.30am and 2.30pm on July 1, 2005:

(a) Cheong Wan Road;
(b) Oi King Street ; and
(c) Cheong Tung Road South

* Suspension of Loading/Unloading Bays

    The following loading /unloading bays will be closed between 7.30am and 2.30pm on July 1, 2005:

(a) Carpark outside Hong Kong Coliseum;
(b) Coach loading bays at Hung Hom KCR Station Podium; and
(c) Half portion (about 60m) of the general loading/unloading bay at Hung Hom KCR Station Podium.

    During the closure, cross-boundary coaches could make use of the existing bus stop at the eastern side of the Hung Hom KCR Station for picking-up and settling down passengers.

    "There will be more than 200 coaches arriving and leaving Hong Kong Coliseum, traffic conditions in the vicinity of Hong Kong Coliseum, in particular at Cross Harbour Tunnel and Hung Hom KCR Station Podium, are expected to be busier during the time period concerned," a department spokesman said.

    "In order to minimise impact to other traffic, Hong Kong Tourism Board will make necessary arrangement to dispatch the coaches in batches and has reserved the vacant land at Hom Hung Bay Reclamation near Oi King Street as holding area for coaches.  Police officers will also be stationed at critical locations to manage the traffic," the spokesman said.
