Traffic in Central congested due to water main burst

    Traffic in Central has been adversely affected due to water main burst on Des Voeux Road Central near Pottinger Street this morning.

    A spokesman of the Transport Department said as a result of road closure,  24 eastbound bus routes on the road were affected and had been diverted via Connaught Road West and Connaught Road Central. All bus stops on Des Voeux Road Central were suspended. Bus stops on Connaught Road Central outside Jardine House and City Hall had been in use temporarily.

    Traffic in the affected area is still congested now in the early afternoon.

    The spokesman said urgent repair works was being carried out. An assessment would be made later in the afternoon to see if the road can be temporarily reopened

    Motorists are advised to avoid driving to the area and passengers are advised to avoid taking transports operating via the affected road sections.

    Road users are advised to spare more time for journey involving the area and be patient when traffic there is congested. They should also pay attention to radio/TV announcements about the most updated situations.

    The water main burst occurred this (July 19) morning. The Transport Department has been closely monitoring the traffic condition and has been updating members of the public through radio stations and TD homepage.
