Traffic in Central remains congested due to burst water main

Traffic in Central is still affected due to the burst water main on Des Voeux Road Central near Pottinger Street this morning.

A spokesman of the Transport Department said that because of the closure of a section of the road, 24 eastbound bus routes on the road were affected and had been diverted via Connaught Road West and Connaught Road Central. All bus stops on Des Voeux Road Central were suspended. Bus stops on Connaught Road Central outside Jardine House and City Hall were in use temporarily.

Traffic in the affected area is expected to be congested during evening peak hours.

Motorists are strongly advised to avoid driving to the area and passengers are advised to avoid taking transport operating via the affected road sections.

Road users are advised to leave more time for journeys involving the area and to be patient when traffic is congested. They should also pay attention to radio/TV announcements on updates of the situation.

The Transport Department has been closely monitoring traffic conditions and has been updating members of the public through the radio and its homepage.
