Traffic of Tate's Cairn Tunnel

     The Transport Department (TD) today (August 1) activated the Emergency Traffic Co-ordination Centre (ETCC) on the first day of the Tate's Cairn Tunnel toll rise.

    “ The traffic flows of both the Tate's Cairn Tunnel and Lion Rock Tunnel during morning peak hours are relatively the same as those on a normal working day,” a TD spokesman said.

     From 6am to 9am, the number of vehicles using the Tate's Cairn Tunnel was about 8,800, a fall of about 6%, or a decrease of around 590 vehicles on the same period a week ago. The number of vehicles using the Lion Rock Tunnel was about 10,000, a drop of about 2%, or a decrease of about 180 vehicles compared with the previous Monday.

    From 12.01am to 3 pm, the number of vehicles using the Tate's Cairn Tunnel was about 29,000, a fall of about 5.5%, or about 1,700 vehicles less than the previous Monday. The number of vehicles using the Lion Rock Tunnel was about 45,000, which was similar to the previous Monday.

    The department's ETCC will continue to closely monitor the traffic of both tunnels.
