TD's advice to public under inclement weather as at 9.45pm

The Transport Department (TD) advised members of the public to pay attention to announcements of radio and TV stations for the latest transport and traffic news in the coming one or two days as traffic and transport in the territory had been affected by the inclement weather.

They were also advised to avoid areas that had been affected.  Motorists should drive with care and patience, and pay attention to the road signs.

Landslips have caused some roads on Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories to have been closed.  The closure of Tung Chung Road and some sections of Route Twisk would remain at least for the coming one or two days and residents were advised to plan for their journeys and use alternative routes.

Commissioner for Transport, Mr Alan Chi Kong Wong, this afternoon (August 21) inspected some of the road sections affected by landslips at Route Twisk, Tsuen Wan.

The following section of roads were still being affected as at 9.45 pm:

South Lantau Road near Tong Fuk and Tung Chung Road near Shek Mun Gap remained closed to all traffic.  New Lantau Bus route no. 1 could only provide limited service between Mui Wo and Cheung Sha, and between Tong Fuk and Tai O.

New World First Ferry will operate 10 additional sailings plying Tung Chung and Tai O tomorrow (August 22).  Ferry service between Mui Wo and Nim Shue Wan and special shuttle bus service between Nim Shue Wan and Discovery Bay Ferry Pier will continue to operate.

Moreover, ferry service of 'Tuen Mun-Tung Chung-Sha Lo Wan-Tai O' will continue to operate tomorrow.

GMB Rt. No. 80, which was affected due to landslide at Route Twisk yesterday, has provided service between Tsuen Wan (Chuen Lung Street) and Route Twisk (Kwong Pan Tin Chuen) from 7.45pm.  At the same time, residents of The Cliveden may walk to Kwong Pan Tin Chuen to take the GMB service to/from Tsuen Wan.

Sections of Victoria Road near Sandy Bay Road and near Mount Davis Path have implemented one-lane-two-way traffic tonight.

One-lane-two-way traffic is implemented on Tai Hang Road between Mount Butler Road and Broadwood Road due to landslide; while Tai Hang Drive was reopened to all traffic since about 3.45pm today.

While relevant works departments are still working hard to clear the blockage, the progress is affected by the instable slope conditions and weather. It is expected that road closures will continue for some more time.

The department will continue to closely monitor the traffic situations.
