New inbound kiosks at Lok Ma Chau Control Point

The Transport Department announced today (September 2) that to cope with the increasing cross-boundary vehicular traffic, four additional kiosks have been installed in the southbound direction of the Lok Ma Chau Control Point. The kiosks will begin operation from 7am on Thursday (September 8).

The four new inbound kiosks, to be used for immigration and customs clearance of private cars, will operate from 7am to 10pm daily. Outside this period, the existing kiosk arrangements will be maintained.

A spokesman of Transport Department said the four new inbound kiosks were designed to allow one-stop immigration and customs clearance for private cars, improving efficiency and facilitating smooth cross-boundary traffic.

After clearance, private cars are to drive through the right-most kiosk lane (No 1) to leave the control point for San Sham Road and San Tin Interchange. The remaining 11 pairs of existing inbound immigration and customs kiosks (No 2-12) will be used mainly for clearance of goods vehicles. Depending on the traffic situation, up to three pairs of the existing kiosks (No 2-4) may be used to clear private cars.

Traffic signs and road markings will be put up to direct private cars to the new inbound kiosks. Leaflets detailing the new arrangements will be distributed to motorists at the Lok Ma Chau Control Point prior to the commissioning of the new kiosks. Motorists are advised to follow the new signage and the direction of the control point staff on site.

In October 2004, four similar private car kiosks were installed in the outbound direction of the Lok Ma Chau Control Point. Recently, the number of lanes leading to the four outbound kiosks have been increased from two to four, with two lanes on the left designated for Hong Kong residents and the other two on the right for visitors, bringing improvement to the traffic flow.
