Transport arrangements in Mong Kok

    To facilitate the Sunday Community Event to be organised in Mong Kok district on September 25, the Transport Department announced today (September 23) a series of temporary traffic arrangements to be implemented from 4pm to midnight on Sunday.

Road Closure

Portland Street between Shantung Street and Argyle Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic.

Banning of Turning Movement

All vehicles on Shantung Street westbound will be banned from making right turn onto Portland Street northbound.

Traffic Diversion

-Affected vehicles on Shantung Street westbound heading for Portland Street northbound will be diverted via Reclamation Street.
-Affected vehicles on Portland Street northbound will be diverted via Cheung Sha Street, Nathan Road and Argyle Street.

Taxi Stand Relocation

The taxi stand at Portland Street outside 242-244 (Far East Bank Building) will be temporarily relocated to Shanghai Street outside Langham Place.

Taxi Drop-Off Only Layby

The taxi drop-off layby Portland Street outside 240 (Far East Bank Building) will be temporarily suspended.

Temporarily Prohibited Zones For Vehicles Exceeding 11 metres in length

The following road sections in Mong Kok will be temporarily designated prohibited zones for vehicles exceeding 11 metres in length:

- The section of Portland Street from its junction with Dundas Street to its junction with Shantung Street; and
- The section of Soy Street from its junction with Shanghai Street to its junction with Portland Street.

     Drivers of all motor vehicles exceeding 11 metres in length, except those with permits issued by the Commissioner for Transport, will be prohibited from entering the prohibited zones.

     Details of the above arrangements will be uploaded on to the website of the Transport Department (www.td.gov.hk) "traffic notices".

     "Motorists are advised not to drive to the areas concerned and to use public transport as far as possible," a Transport Department spokesman said. "If they must drive, please drive with care and patience, and pay attention to the traffic signs."
