Chung Yeung Festival traffic arrangements

     A Transport Department spokesman said today (September 26) that as large number of grave sweepers were expected to go to cemeteries in Tseung Kwan O, Wo Hop Shek and Sandy Ridge around Chung Yeung Festival, special traffic and transport arrangements would be implemented on roads in the vicinity.

- Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery:

     Road closure measures for this year's Chung Yeung Festival will be similar to the previous festivals .  Except emergency vehicles, the access road leading to the Cemetery will be closed to all vehicular traffic from 5.30am to 8pm on October 9 (Sunday) and 11 (Chung Yeung Festival day).

     "General road closure" will be implemented from 5.30am to 6pm on October 1, 2, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 30.  All vehicles are prohibited from using the access road leading to the cemetery except KMB special bus Route no. 14S, emergency vehicles, hearses, vehicles in funeral processions and with permits issued by the Cemetery.  KMB's special bus route will provide service between 7am and 5.25pm plying between Lei Yue Mun Road in Yau Tong and the cemetery. Passengers planning to take the special bus route should pay attention to the schedule of the "General road closure".

- Wo Hop Shek, Fanling:

     Kiu Tau Road (expect hearses), Ming Ying Road (except franchised buses), Wo Ka Lau Road and all access roads within Wo Hop Shek Cemetery will be closed to all vehicles, except emergency vehicles, from 6am to 5pm on October 1, 2, 9, 11, 16 and 23. The flyover between Kau Lung Hang Village and Tai Wo Service Road West will only be open to taxis, coaches, school buses, green minibuses, private cars, goods vehicles and motor cycles.

     On October 1, 2, 9, 11, 16 and 23, special traffic management measures, restrictions on stopping, loading and unloading will be implemented at some road sections in the area. Drivers should pay attention to instructions of on-site road signs and policemen.

     KMB route no. 76S will be operated between Fanling KCR Station and Wo Hop Shek Cemetery on October 9 and 11. KMB route no. 70S (Wui Cheung Road, Jordan - Wo Hop Shek Cemetery) and 74S (Lam Tin MTR Station - Wo Hop Shek Cemetery) will provide service via Tolo Highway on October 11.

- Sandy Ridge, Frontier Closed Area:

     No vehicles will be allowed to gain access to Sandy Ridge expect those with Frontier Closed Road Permits every day between 6am and 6pm from now to October 23 inclusive. Grave sweepers going to Sandy Ridge can take KMB route no. 73K, Green Minibus route no. 59K or train service to Lo Wu. KMB route no. 73K service will be strengthened on October 9, 11 and 16 if needed.

     The spokesman appealed to people to make full use of public transport, avoid going to the cemetery on busy days and follow the instructions of on-site road signs, policemen or other personnel on duty around the cemeteries.
