Pak Sha Road Pedestrian Scheme to be revised

To alleviate the traffic congestion at the afternoon peak, a Transport Department spokesman said that the road closure times for Pak Sha Road and Lee Garden Road (between Kai Chiu Road and Pak Sha Road) will be changed to 7pm – midnight on Mondays to Fridays (except public holidays) starting from Monday (October 24).

For a better environment and greater pedestrian safety, the Transport Department has carried out a trial part-time pedestrian scheme since June 3, last year. The initial road closure times were from 4pm to midnight on Mondays to Fridays; and from noon to midnight on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

"The change was discussed and endorsed by the Wan Chai District Council on September 27. The road closure times on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays will remain unchanged," the spokesman said.

He added that two measures to improve the pedestrian crossing facilities at Lan Fong Road and Yun Ping Road had just been implemented. These measures include: widening the western footpath and constructing a speed table at Yun Ping Road, near Lan Fong Road, to help pedestrians cross Yun Ping Road; and adding a yellow box at the junction of Yun Ping Road/Lan Fong Road to help pedestrians cross Lan Fong Road.

"We will closely monitor the traffic situation after the implementation of the new arrangement, and review the traffic management measures with a view to facilitating the trial pedestrian scheme," the spokesman said.
