Special traffic and transport arrangements for procession on December 14

    The Transport Department (TD) announced today (December 13)that special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented to facilitate a procession from Harcourt Garden to Victoria Park tomorrow (December 14).  

(A) Road closure:

The following roads are to be closed to vehicular traffic from 10 am and as necessary:

(a) Tram track between the road junction of Des Voeux Road Central junction with Ice House Street and the road junction of Hennessy Road junction with Johnston Road;
(b) The section of eastbound Johnston Road between Hennessy Road and Luard Road;
(c) Fenwick Street between Hennessy Road and Johnston Road;
(d) Luard Road between Johnston Road and Jaffe Road;
(e) Eastbound leftmost lane of Hennessy Road between Luard Road and Marsh Road;
(f) The section of northbound Marsh Road between Jaffe Road and Lockhart Road.

Upon start of the procession, the following roads are to be closed from 11 am and as necessary:
 
(a) Marsh Road Flyover;
(b) Northbound Marsh Road between Gloucester Road and Hung Hing Road; and
(c) Hung Hing Road between Tonnochy Road and Wan Shing Street.

The following roads are to be closed at anytime as necessary:

(a) Convention Avenue between Tonnochy Road and Fleming Road;
(b) Tonnochy Road between Harbour Road and Convention Avenue;
(c) Eastbound Harbour Road between Fleming Road and Tonnochy Road.

The following roads are to be closed from 12 noon and as necessary:

(a) Lockhart Road between Fleming Road and East Point Road;
(b) East Point Road;
(c) Percival Street between Gloucester Road and Hennessy Road except the northbound section between Jaffe Road and Gloucester Road;
(d) The section of Canal Road East between Jaffe Road and Hennessy Road;
(e) The section of Canal Road West between Jaffe Road and Hennessy Road;
(f) Southbound Marsh Road flyover between Hung Hing Road and Lockhart Road; and
(g) The section of southbound Marsh Road between Jaffe Road and Lockhart Road.

From 12.30 pm and as necessary:

(a) Northbound Gloucester Road from the U-turn loop underneath Tai Hang Road Flyover to Kingston Street;
(b) Sugar Street;
(c) Great George Street;
(d) Paterson Street between Kingston Street and Great George Street; and
(e) Westbound Kingston Street between Gloucester Road and Paterson Street.

The following roads are to be closed to vehicular traffic from 1 pm and as necessary:

(a) Sugar Street; and
(b) Keswick Street.  

(B) Traffic diversion

The following road diversions will be implemented from 10 am and as necessary:

(a) Traffic along westbound Hennessy Road will be prohibited to turn left onto eastbound Johnston Road;
(b) Traffic along southbound Fenwick Street must turn left onto eastbound Hennessy Road;
(c) Traffic along northbound Tonnochy Road will be prohibited to turn right onto eastbound Lockhart Road;
(d) Traffic along Jaffe Road will be prohibited to turn right onto southbound Tonnochy Road; and
(e) Traffic along westbound Hung Hing Road will be prohibited to turn left onto southbound Marsh Road Flyover.  

From 11 am and as necessary:

(a) Traffic along northbound Wan Shing Street will be prohibited to turn left onto westbound Hung Hing Road;
(b) Traffic from eastbound Hung Hing Road will be prohibited to turn right onto Marsh Road Flyover; and
(c) Traffic from eastbound Gloucester Road will be prohibited to turn left onto northbound Marsh Road.

At anytime as necessary:

(a) Traffic along Tonnochy Road Flyover must turn left onto westbound Harbour Road;
(b) Traffic along northbound Tonnochy Road must turn left onto westbound Harbour Road;
(c) Traffic along Harbour Road between Fleming Road and Tonnochy Road will be reverted to one way westbound; and
(d) Traffic along northbound Fleming Road must turn left onto westbound Harbour Road except to Renaissance Harbour Hotel.

From 12 noon and as necessary:

(a) Traffic along eastbound Hennessy Road will be prohibited to turn left onto  northbound Canal Road West;
(b) Traffic along eastbound Lockhart Road must turn left onto northbound Luard Road;
(c) Traffic along northbound Tonnochy Road will be prohibited to turn right onto eastbound Lockhart Road;
(d) Traffic along Jaffe Road will be prohibited to turn right onto southbound Tonnochy Road;
(e) Traffic along westbound Hung Hing Road will be prohibited to turn left onto southbound Marsh Road Flyover;
(f) Traffic along southbound Marsh Road must turn left onto eastbound Jaffe Road;
(g) Traffic along northbound Marsh Road will be prohibited to turn right onto eastbound Lockhart Road;
(h) Traffic along southbound Canal Road East must turn left onto eastbound Jaffe Road;
(i) Traffic along Jaffe Road will be prohibited to turn right onto southbound Percival Street; and
(j) Traffic along westbound Gloucester Road Service Road will be prohibited to turn left onto southbound Percival Street.

From 12.30 pm onwards and as necessary:

(a) Traffic along southbound Gloucester Road will be prohibited to turn right onto U-turn loop leading to northbound Gloucester Road;
(b) Traffic along eastbound Yee Wo Street is prohibited to turn left onto Sugar Street;
(c) Traffic along northbound Tai Hang Road Flyover is prohibited to turn left onto  westbound Kingston Street;
(d) Traffic along southbound Paterson Street must turn left to eastbound Kingston Street; and
(e) Traffic along southbound Cleveland Street is prohibited to turn right onto westbound Kingston Street.

At anytime as necessary:

(a) Traffic from westbound King's Road must turn left into southbound Tung Lo Wan Road, or turn right into northbound Hing Fat Street;
(b) Traffic along westbound Tung Lo Wan Road is prohibited to turn right into Moreton Terrace;
(c) Section of eastbound Tung Lo Wan Road from outside St. Paul Hospital to Moreton Terrace will be re-routed one-way westbound.  Vehicular traffic will only be allowed under Police direction at scene;
(d) Traffic along the abovementioned Tung Lo Wan Road must turn left, either heading for Ka Ning Path or Eastern Hospital Road except franchised buses;
(e) Traffic, except buses, green mini buses and vehicles over 7 metres in length, along the slip road leading from northbound Tai Hang Road to the abovementioned Tung Lo Wan Road, must turn left into this section of Tung Lo Wan Road (re-routed one-way westbound);
(f) Traffic along eastbound Yee Wo Street is prohibited to turn right into southbound Tung Lo Wan Road or westbound Leighton Road;
(g) Traffic along westbound Leighton Road must turn left into Wong Nai Chung Road except franchised buses;
(h) Traffic along northbound Fleming Road must turn left onto westbound Lockhart Road;
(i) Traffic along eastbound Hennessy Road will be prohibited to turn left onto northbound Marsh Road; and
(j) Traffic along northbound Tin Lok Lane must turn left onto westbound Hennessy Road or turn right onto eastbound Hennessy Road.

From 1 pm and as necessary:
(a) Traffic along northbound Pennington Street will be prohibited to turn right onto Keswick Street; and
(b) Traffic along eastbound Yee Wo Street is prohibited to turn left onto Sugar Street.  

(C) Bus Arrangement

Bus services running through the procession route in eastbound Queensway will be maintained as normal as possible.  Bus services running northbound Luard Road would be diverted to use northbound Fleming Road and westbound Gloucester Road.

(D) Green Mini Bus (GMB) and Public Light Bus (PLB) Arrangement

GMB and PLB running eastbound Lockhart Road will be diverted to use eastbound Hennessy Road.  Meanwhile, GMB and PLB running westbound Lockhart Road will be directed to use westbound inner Gloucester Road.

(E) Tram Service

Eastbound tram services will be suspended at the road junction of Des Voeux Road Central junction with Pedder Street during the road closure period.

Westbound tram services will be suspended at the road junction of Johnston Road junction with Luard Road.

(F) Suspension of parking spaces

Between 7 am on December 11 and 7 am on December 19, all parking spaces for all classes of vehicles including metered parking space, taxi stands, public light bus stands, on the following roads are to be suspended:

(i) Lockhart Road
(ii) Jaffe Road
(iii) Luard Road
(iv) Fenwick Street
(v) Steward Road
(vi) Tonnochy Road
(vii) Canal Road West
(viii) Canal Road East
(ix) Cannon Street
(x) Paterson Street
(xi) Cleveland Street
(xii) Inner Gloucester Road

Additional road closures may also be implemented by the Police.

(G) Transport arrangements

40 bus routes operating on Queensway eastbound to Hennessy Road will be maintained during procession as far as possible.

Bus diversions:
Rts. 2A, 8, 8P, 25A, 25C to Wan Chai via Hennessy Road, Canal Road bus only lane, Canal, Road East, Morrison Hill Road, Wan Chai Road, Fleming Road and Hennessy Road eastbound.

Rts. 601, 680 to Admiralty via Hennessy Road w/b, Tonnochy Road, Gloucester Road service road, Harcourt Road.

Rts. 37B, 75, 090, 97, 590A to Southern District via Hennessy Road e/b, Fleming Rd, Wan Chai Rd

Rts. 104, 681, 182, to Central via Gloucester Road service rd, Harcourt Rd, Cotton Tree Drive, Queensway.

GMB diversions:
4A, 4B, 4C, 5, 10, 11, 31, 39M, 35M
