Special Traffic and Transport Arrangements for Vehicle Procession

     Special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented tomorrow morning (January 20) to facilitate a vehicle procession on Hong Kong Island.

     A spokesman for the Transport Department said today (January 19) that about 200 taxis would participate in the procession between 9am and 11am from Chai Wan to Admiralty (North) via Shing Tai Road, Island Eastern Corridor, Victoria Park Road, Gloucester Road, Tonnochy Road, Convention Avenue, Fenwick Pier Street and Lung Wui Road.

     The spokesman reminded people that subject to the conditions in the area, a series of special traffic and transport arrangements would be implemented tomorrow morning:
*    Temporary road closures and associated traffic diversions in Chai Wan and Admiralty (North);
*    Temporary diversions of two bus routes and one green minibus route passing through the affected areas; and
*    Temporary suspension of some bus stops and public light bus stands.

     The department urged people who planned to go to the affected areas to use public transport. Motorists are advised to avoid driving to the affected areas. In cases of traffic congestion, motorists should exercise tolerance and patience, and take heed of instructions of the Police. People are also advised to pay attention to the latest traffic news broadcast by radio and TV stations.

     The Transport Department and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation. Appropriate measures will be implemented whenever necessary.

     Details of the special traffic and transport arrangements are now available at "Traffic Notices" on the department's homepage, http://www.td.gov.hk/traffic_notices/index.htm.
