TD meets taxi trade representatives on light goods vehicles operation

In response to media enquiries, a Transport Department spokesman said the department held a meeting with a group of taxi trade representatives this afternoon (April 10) and listened to the views expressed on the operation of light goods vehicles (LGV).

The spokesman said the department would not underestimate the seriousness of the problem of LGV suspected of illegally charging passengers rather than goods alone.

The department would work hard with the Police and the Airport Authority to prosecute the offenders in addition to publicising and educating the LGV operators and the passengers about the distinction between LGVs and taxis, the insurance implications for the former and adopt other measures

The taxi trade was welcome to make suggestions that would help combat such illegal activities effectively, the spokesman said.
