Rescission of prohibited Zone on Tung Chung Road
Members of the public / Motorists are advised that the prohibited zone on the section of Tung Chung Road between Shek Mun Kap Road and South Lantau Road (near San Shek Wan) will be rescinded with effect from 12.01 am on 1 June 2010.
Currently, Tung Chung Road south of Shek Mun Kap Road is both a closed road and prohibited zone. Motor vehicles accessing south Lantau via Tung Chung Road are required to obtain both Lantau Closed Road Permit and Tung Chung Road Prohibited Zone Permit. In view of the improvements on Tung Chung Road in terms of road capacity and safety, and the effectiveness of the single use of closed road permit as a traffic management tool, the department decided after consultation with Islands District Council and relevant stakeholders that the current prohibited zone on Tung Chung Road would be cancelled with effect from 1 June 2010 so as to further streamline the permit application procedures.
Motorists are also reminded that the section of Tung Chung Road south of Shek Mun Kap Road and all roads in south Lantau are still designated as closed roads in spite of the cancellation of prohibited zone on Tung Chung Road. Motorists who wish to drive into south Lantau are still required to possess valid Lantau Closed Road Permit and to abide by the condition of use as stated on the closed road permit.
