TRAFFIC ADVICE

 

Special Traffic and Transport Arrangements for a Public Procession
on Hong Kong Island on 16 July 2017

 

Members of the public are advised that to facilitate a public procession to be held on Hong Kong Island, the following special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented on 16 July 2017 (Sunday):

 

I.           Special Traffic Arrangements

 

A.         Road Closure

 

(i)            If necessary, the following roads will be closed to all vehicular traffic from about 2.00 pm onwards until the crowd is dispersed and traffic resumes normal:

 

(a)        The U-turn slip road between Gloucester Road southbound and northbound;

(b)       Sugar Street;

(c)        Jardine’s Bazaar;

(d)       The section of Lee Garden Road between Kai Chiu Road and Hennessy Road;

(e)        Kai Chiu Road;

(f)        The section of Yun Ping Road between Lan Fong Road and Kai Chiu Road;

(g)       Tang Lung Street;

(h)       The section of Canal Road East between Russell Street and Hennessy Road;

(i)         The section of Canal Road West between Sharp Street West and Hennessy Road;

(j)         The section of Wan Chai Road between Canal Road West and Morrison Hill Road;

(k)       The section of Bowrington Road between Sharp Street West and Hennessy Road; and

(l)         The slip road leading from Johnston Road eastbound to Hennessy Road westbound.

 

(ii)          The following roads will be intermittently closed to all vehicular traffic from about 2.30 pm onwards until the crowd is dispersed and traffic resumes normal:

 

(a)        The section of Gloucester Road between Causeway Road and Great George Street;

(b)       Yee Wo Street westbound; and

(c)        Hennessy Road westbound.

 

B.          Traffic Diversions

 

If necessary, the following traffic diversions will be implemented from about 2.00 pm onwards until the crowd is dispersed and traffic resumes normal:

 

(i)            Traffic along Gloucester Road southbound will be prohibited from turning right onto Gloucester Road northbound;

(ii)          Traffic along Yee Wo Street eastbound will be prohibited from turning left onto Sugar Street;

(iii)        Traffic along Pennington Street northbound will be prohibited from turning left onto Jardine’s Bazaar;

(iv)        Traffic along Yun Ping Road northbound will be diverted to turn left onto Lan Fong Road westbound;

(v)          Traffic along Hennessy Road westbound will be prohibited from turning left onto Canal Road East southbound.

(vi)        Traffic along Russell Street westbound will be diverted to turn left onto Canal Road East southbound;

(vii)      Traffic along Canal Road West northbound near Sharp Street West will be diverted to the up-ramp leading to Canal Road flyover northbound;

(viii)    Traffic along Sharp Street West eastbound will be diverted to the up-ramp leading to Canal Road flyover northbound;

(ix)        Traffic along Sharp Street West eastbound will be prohibited from turning left onto Bowrington Road northbound;

(x)          Traffic along Bowrington Road northbound will be diverted to turn right onto Sharp Street West eastbound;

(xi)        Traffic along Wan Chai Road eastbound will be diverted to turn right onto Morrison Hill Road southbound; and

(xii)      Traffic along Johnston Road eastbound will be prohibited from turning left onto Hennessy Road westbound.

 

II.        Special Transport Arrangements

 

A.        Green Minibus (GMB) Diversion

 

GMB route nos. 40 and 40X will be temporarily converted as circular service, and diverted via Leighton Road eastbound, Hysan Avenue eastbound, Hoi Ping Road southbound, Leighton Road westbound and Wong Nai Chung Road, from about 2.00 pm onwards until the crowd is dispersed and the traffic resumes normal.

 

B.         Suspension of Public Light Bus (PLB) Stand and GMB Stand

 

The PLB stand at Sugar Street and the GMB stand at Jardine’s Bazaar will be suspended from about 2.00 pm onwards until the crowd is dispersed and traffic resumes normal.

 

Vehicles parked in carparks within the affected areas may not be permitted to enter or leave the car parks during the road closure period until the crowd is dispersed and the road closure is lifted.

 

Further adjustment to the above traffic arrangements may be made by the Police at the time depending on the actual conditions.

 

Motorists are advised to be patient when driving in the vicinity of the affected areas and follow Police’s instruction.  The public are advised to use public transport services as far as possible, avoid driving to the affected areas and watch out for the latest traffic news via media.
