Transport Department Notice 

Temporary Traffic and Transport Arrangements
for Tram Track Renewal Works in Wan Chai District

  Notice is hereby given that to facilitate the tram track renewal works in Wan Chai District, the following temporary traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented from about 10.00 am on 20 February 2018 to 10.00 am on 1 March 2018 or until the above works is completed: 

(I)  Traffic Arrangements 

(A)  Traffic Lane Closure
     The following traffic lanes will be temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic during the periods specified below:

     From about 10.00 am on 20 February 2018 to 10.00 am on 24 February 2018

(i)    The middle lane of Hennessy Road westbound from a point about 50 metres east of its junction with Tin Lok Lane to a point about 15 metres west of the same junction (except trams);
(ii)   The nearside lane of Tin Lok Lane from a point about 40 metres north of its junction with Wan Chai Road to a point about 55 metres north of the same junction; and
(iii)  The middle lane of Tin Lok Lane from its junction with Wan Chai Road to a point about 40 metres north of the same junction. 

     From about 10.00 am on 24 February 2018 to 10.00 am on 1 March 2018

(i)     The offside lane of Hennessy Road westbound from a point about 50 metres east of its junction with Tin Lok Lane to a point about 35 metres west of the same junction (except trams);
(ii)    The nearside lane of Tin Lok Lane from a point about 40 metres north of its junction with Wan Chai Road to a point about 55 metres north of the same junction; and
(iii)   The middle lane of Tin Lok Lane from its junction with Wan Chai Road to a point about 40 metres north of the same junction. 

(B)  Temporary Restricted Zone

  The southern kerbside lane of Hennessy Road from its junction with Tin Lok Lane to a point about 40 metres west of the same junction will be temporarily designated as a restricted zone 24 hours daily during the works period. 

(C)  Cancellation of Bus Lane

      The bus lane on the nearside lane of Hennessy Road westbound from a point about 30 metres west of its junction with Tin Lok Lane to a point about 55 metres west of the same junction will be temporarily cancelled during the works period.

 (D)  Cancellation of Tram Lane
     The tram lane on the offside lane of Hennessy Road westbound from a point about 15 metres east of its junction with Tin Lok Lane to a point about 30 metres west of the same junction will be temporarily cancelled from about 10.00 am on 20 February 2018 to 10.00 am on 24 February 2018.  

(II)  Transport Arrangements 

(A)   Suspension of Tram Services
       The following tram services will be suspended during the periods specified below:
  
      From about 10.00 am on 20 February 2018 to 4.00 pm on 21 February 2018

     The eastbound tram services between Happy Valley Terminus and Tin Lok Lane tram stop (no. 112) will be suspended. All trams departing from Happy Valley Terminus via Tin Lok Lane will only turn left onto Hennessy Road westbound. 

     Affected passengers shall take the westbound tram services to Tonnochy Road westbound tram stop (no. 52W) and interchange with other eastbound tram services at Tonnochy Road eastbound tram stop (no.47E) on the opposite side.

     From about 10.00 am on 22 February 2018 to 5.00 am on 28 February 2018

     The westbound tram services between Happy Valley Terminus and Tin Lok Lane tram stop (no. 112) will be suspended. All trams departing from Happy Valley Terminus via Tin Lok Lane will only turn right onto Hennessy Road eastbound. 

     Affected passengers shall take the eastbound tram services to Canal Road West eastbound tram stop (no. 49E) and interchange with other westbound tram services at Canal Road West westbound tram stop (no.50W) on the opposite side. 

(B)  Bus Diversions
  To facilitate the above works, the following bus routes will be diverted during from their first departures on 20 February 2018 until 10.00 am on 1 March 2018: 

(i)     Citybus (CTB) Route nos. 72, 72A, 96 and 592 will be diverted via Morrison Hill Road, Leighton Road and Pennington Street before resuming to their original routings; and
(ii)    Cross Harbour (XHT) Route nos. 112 and 116 will be diverted via Canal Road East, Leighton Road and Pennington Street before resuming to their original routings. 

(C)    Bus Stop Arrangements
(i)    In connection with the above bus diversions, temporary bus stop arrangements will be implemented for the affected bus routes. Members of the public can make enquires to the bus companies for further details of temporary bus stop arrangements. (Citybus: 2873 0818; New World First Bus: 2136 8888; Kowloon Motor Bus: 2745 4466); and
(ii)   In addition, the bus stop of XHT Route nos. 101, 111, 111P, 811, N121 and CTB Route no. 1 at Wan Chai Road near the Charterhouse will be temporarily relocated to Wan Chai Road near Wai Hay Mansion from their first departures on 20 February 2018 until 10.00 am on 1 March 2018.

  (D)  Relocation of Taxi Pick-up/ Drop-off Point
  The taxi pick-up/ drop-off point on Hennessy Road near Cheong Yip Building will be temporarily relocated about 20 metres westward.

  Appropriate traffic signs and road markings will be erected on site to guide motorists. The public transport operators will display notices to advise passengers of the above temporary arrangements. 

  The Transport Department anticipates that the traffic in the vicinity of Hennessy Road and Tin Lok Lane would be significantly congested during the above works period.  Motorists are advised to avoid driving to the affected areas. They should exercise tolerance and patience in case of traffic congestion and consider using other alternative routes. Public transport commuters are advised to pay attention to the arrangements of route diversions and suspension / relocation of stops. 

  Members of the public who plan to go to the affected areas are advised to plan their routes early, allow more travelling time to cater for unexpected delay, use public transport services as far as possible, especially railway services, and watch out for the latest traffic news through the media.
