LPG Rehabus
ISO Certificate
The Rehabus service is operated by the Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation under the subvention from the Health, Welfare and Food Bureau. It provides a territory-wide transport network which enables people with mobility disabilities to travel to work and school, or participate in social and recreational activities. The service uses 87 specially adapted vehicles and provides a door-to-door service for passengers who have serious walking difficulties including wheelchair users. In 2003, Rehabus has acquired the internationally recognized ISO:9001:2000 certification for the quality design and provision of Rehabus services.

The majority of Rehabuses accommodate up to 12 passengers, or a maximum of 4 wheelchair passengers plus 6 passengers. Wheelchair restraint systems are provided for wheelchair users and safety belts for other passengers with mobility disabilities to ensure safety to all passengers.

There are four types of rehabus services which are briefly described below:

Scheduled Route Service
It is a regular peak hour service taking passengers with mobility disabilities to and from workplaces, schools, training centres and medical institutions. There are 58 routes serving the whole territory from Mondays to Saturdays (except public holidays) from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Feeder Service
Three regular feeder routes in Kowloon City, Sha Tin and Hong Kong South District are in service. The feeder services are operated on fixed routings and schedules.

Dial-a-ride Service
It is a personalized pre-booked service taking passengers with mobility disabilities to clinics, shops, sports centres and leisure facilities etc, provided continuously throughout the year. 19 dedicated rehabuses and 58 rehabuses off-duty from the scheduled route service are deployed to run the dial-a-ride service.

Pooled Dial-a-ride Service
Passengers having dial-a-ride bookings with fixed pattern of travel demand, can share the same Rehabus for the same or near by location, so that the utilization of resources can be maximized. There are 37 routes for this service.

At present, passenger using Feeder Service and Dial-A-Ride service can pay their fares by Octopus other than cash. This convenience will be available to Scheduled Route Service users later in 2005.

Old rehabuses will be gradually replaced by LPG rehabuses for environmental protection. The new LPG rehabus is better equipped, including the following features:

  • seats of higher safety standard
  • moveable-seat safety warning system
  • auto step at middle door
  • ring bell inside passenger compartment
  • handrails painted in yellow
