The KCRC East Rail and Ma On Shan Rail operate along Kowloon and North
East New Territories between East Tsim Sha Tsui Station and Lo Wu
Station/Wu Kai Sha Station (see Figure 2). There are 22 stations along
the two railway lines. Passengers travelling from stations of East Rail
to stations of Ma On Shan Rail or vice versa may interchange at Tai Wai
Station. The following facilities are provided for passengers with
disabilities:
Passengers with walking difficulty
Passenger lifts and ramps are provided for passengers with walking
difficulty. Details of accessibility at each station are given in Table 2
and 3. Wheelchair parking space is provided on each train and there are
directional signs at platforms to guide the wheelchair passengers to the
lifts. Gangplanks are provided at platforms of Mong Kok, Kowloon Tong and
University stations to facilitate the wheelchair passengers to board the
trains where the platform gaps are wider than the standard ones due to
the curvature of the stations.

Passengers with visual impairment
The Visually Impaired Person Ticket Vending Machines - Touch Screen,
which are facilitated with voice system and braille plates, are available
on station concourse, providing another simple and convenient way of
ticket vending service for the visual-impaired passengers.
Tactile guide paths are installed at all stations except the Racecourse
Station. The tactile guide path starts from the station entrance, leading
passengers with visual impairment to the ticket office (if they want to
buy tickets), to the gates and then to the lifts or staircases to reach
the designated area of the platforms for train services. Tactile warning
strips are also installed at platforms to indicate the location of yellow
line where the passengers are expected not to stay beyond.
Audible devices are installed at escalators to help passengers to know
the travelling direction of the escalators. Public announcement of next
station is made inside train compartments. A buzzer sound is emitted in
case of train door opening/closing. Audible signal device for
bi-directional gate is installed to inform visually impaired passengers
when there is another passenger using the gate at the same time. Colour
contrast grab poles are provided inside compartment. Braille plates are
installed at all Add Value Machines, public toilets, lifts and inside the
train compartments to assist visually impaired passengers in using the
necessary facilities independently. In addition, colour contrast
inter-car barriers have been fitted to trains to prevent people with
visual impairment from falling into the rail accidentally.
