Pedestrian Schemes for Central

Central is the core business district of Hong Kong. Queen's Road Central, Des Voeux Road Central and their adjoining streets are some of the major pedestrian corridors in the district. In order to improve the environment and safety for pedestrians, Transport Department has implemented pedestrian schemes in the more crowded parts of these pedestrian corridors.

(1) Full-time Pedestrian Street

The following full-time pedestrian streets have been implemented since July and October 2001 respectively:

	Theatre Lane (access to private carpark is restricted to vehicles with permits only)
	Chiu Lung Street (service vehicles are only allowed during the period from 12 midnight to 12 noon)

(2) Part-time Pedestrian Street

The following part-time pedestrian streets have been operating on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. since May 2002:

	D'Aguilar Street (between Wyndham Street and Wellington Street)
	Lan Kwai Fong
	Wo On Lane

Vehicular access to Lan Kwai Fong is restricted daily from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m.

(3) Traffic Calming Street

The northern footpath at Queen's Road Central (between Pedder Street and Pottinger Street) has been temporarily widened since April 2003.

The following traffic calming streets have been implemented progressively since late 2005.

	Elgin Street
	Peel Street (between Staunton Street and Caine Road)
	Staunton Street
