Pedestrian Schemes for Sham Shui Po
Sham Shui Po is one of the busiest districts with substantial commercial, retails and other economic activities. It is also a popular tourist destination for electrical and computer commodities. At Apliu Street, the pedestrian volume exceeds 5,500 numbers per hour at peak. Insufficient road space to accommodate both vehicular traffic and pedestrians may result in traffic accidents. In order to improve the environment and safety for pedestrians, Transport Department has already implemented pedestrian schemes in the more crowded parts of Sham Shui Po. These include:
(1) Part-time Pedestrian Street
The following part-time pedestrian streets have been implemented on trial basis during the period between 12 noon to 9:00 p.m. daily since October 2001. With the support of the Sham Shui Po District Council, the schemes have become permanent since May 2002.
