Pedestrian Schemes for Shek Wu Hui, Sheung Shui

There are substantial commercial, retail and other economic activities in Shek Wu Hui. Insufficient road space to accommodate both vehicular traffic and pedestrians also contributes to traffic accidents. In order to improve the environment and safety for pedestrians, Transport Department has implemented pedestrian schemes in the more crowded parts of Shek Wu Hui.

Part-time Pedestrian Street

The following part-time pedestrian streets have been operating between 11:00a.m. and 7 p.m. on Sundays and Public Holidays since January 2002:

	San Kung Street and
	San Hong Street (from Tsun Fu Street to Fu Hing Street)

Outdoor activities are allowed upon application to increase attractiveness, for example, alfresco dining, street performance, and so on.

The following traffic measures have been implemented since January 2002:

	Cancel parking spaces at San Kung Street and San Hong Street.
	Reprovide some parking spaces at San Shing Avenue.
	Designate loading/unloading areas at San Kung Street and San Hong Street.
