Special traffic and transport arrangements for flag raising ceremony at Golden Bauhinia Square in Wan Chai

    The Transport Department (TD) today (September 28) reminded the public that special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented to facilitate the holding of the flag raising ceremony at Golden Bauhinia Square in Wan Chai on October 1 (Thursday).

     The special traffic and transport arrangements will mainly include:

Road closures
----------------

     The following roads will be temporarily closed from 0.01am on September 29 to noon on October 1:

- Expo Drive;
- Expo Drive Central;
- Expo Drive East;
- The slip road leading from Central - Wan Chai Bypass to Expo Drive;
- The section of Fleming Road between Expo Drive Central and Convention Avenue; and
- The section of Lung Wo Road eastbound between the Wan Chai entrance of Central - Wan Chai Bypass eastbound and Fleming Road.

     The following road will be temporarily closed from 5.30am to noon on October 1:

- The section of Lung Wo Road westbound between the Wan Chai exit of Central - Wan Chai Bypass westbound and Fleming Road.

Public transport services

1. The bus terminus at Expo Drive East and the bus stop on Expo Drive East near Convention Avenue will be suspended from 0.01am on September 29 to noon on October 1. Citybus route No. 40M and cross-harbour route No. 961 will terminate at and depart from Wan Chai North Temporary Public Transport Interchange while New World First Bus route No. H1 will depart at the en-route bus stop on Convention Avenue outside Wan Chai Ferry Pier. The three routes will be diverted during the period of road closure;

2. The taxi stand at Expo Drive will be suspended from 0.01am on September 29 to noon on October 1; and
 
3. Parts of the taxi stand at Harbour Road westbound opposite Harbour Centre will be suspended from about 7.30am to 9am on October 1.

     The TD anticipates that the traffic in the vicinity of Wan Chai North will become more congested. Motorists are advised to avoid driving to the affected areas. In case of traffic congestion, they should exercise tolerance and patience, follow the Police's instructions and be alert to the latest traffic news through the media.
 
     The public transport operators will display notices to inform passengers of the temporary arrangements. Public transport commuters are advised to pay attention to the arrangements of route diversions and suspension and relocation of stops. The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate measures whenever necessary.
