Special Traffic and Transport Arrangements in Hong Kong Island

Notice is hereby given that the following special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented on 1 January 2012 for the time periods specified below to facilitate the holding of Hong Kong Dragon and Lion Festival 2012:

(A) Traffic Arrangements

(I) Road Closure

1. The following road sections will be closed to all vehicular traffic from 12.00 noon to 4.00 pm:-
(i) the section of Chater Road between Jackson Road and Murray Road;
(ii) Club Street; and
(iii) the unnamed road next to AIA Central Tower.
2. The following road sections will be closed to all vehicular traffic from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm:
(i) the section of Des Voeux Road Central eastbound between Pedder Street and Murray Road;
(ii) the section of Ice House Street between Des Voeux Road Central and Queen's Road Central;
(iii) the section of Murray Road southbound between Harcourt Road and Queensway;
(iv) Lambeth Walk;
(v) the section of Cotton Tree Drive southbound between the U-turn slip road of Cotton Tree Drive and Queensway;
(vi) Queensway eastbound;
(vii) the section of Tamar Street northbound between Drake Street and Queensway;
(viii) the section of Rodney Street between Drake Street and Queensway;
(ix) Justice Drive flyover; and
(x) the section of Hennessy Road eastbound between Arsenal Street and Luard Road.

(II) Traffic Diversion
1. The following traffic diversion will be implemented from 12.00 noon to 2.00 pm:-
(i) Vehicles on Lambeth Walk westbound will be diverted to Murray Road southbound.
2. The following traffic diversion will be implemented from 12.00 noon to 4.00 pm:-
(i) Vehicles on Jackson Road northbound will be prohibited from making right turns onto Chater Road eastbound;
(ii) Vehicles on Connaught Road Central westbound will be prohibited from making left turns onto Club Street; and
(iii) Vehicles on Connaught Road Central westbound will be prohibited from making left turns onto the unnamed road next to AIA Central Tower.

3. The following traffic diversion will be implemented from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm:-
(i) Vehicles on Des Voeux Road Central eastbound will be diverted to Pedder Street northbound; and
(ii) Vehicles on Queen's Road Central westbound will be prohibited from making right turns onto Ice House Street northbound;
(iii) Vehicles on Ice House Street northbound will be diverted onto Queen's Road Central westbound
(iv) Vehicles on Harcourt Road westbound will be prohibited from making left turns onto Murray Road;
(v) Vehicles on Cotton Tree Drive northbound will be prohibited from making left turns onto Lambeth Walk;
(vi) Vehicles on Garden Road flyover eastbound will be diverted to Cotton Tree Drive northbound;
(vii) Vehicles on Cotton Tree Drive southbound will be diverted to making U-turn onto Cotton Tree Drive northbound;
(viii) Vehicles from Admiralty Station (East) Bus Terminus will be diverted to Drake Street westbound;
(ix) Vehicles on Justice Drive northbound will be prohibited from entering Justice Drive flyover;
(x) Vehicles on Justice Drive northbound will be diverted to Queensway westbound; and
(xi) Vehicles on Fenwick Street southbound will be prohibited from making left turns onto Hennessy Road eastbound.

(B) Arrangements for Public Transport Services

The following bus diversion and bus stop arrangements will be implemented from 12.00 noon to 4.00 pm on 1 January 2012:

The following Green Minibus diversions will be implemented from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm on 1 January 2012:

GMB Route Nos. 24A and 24M	To Shiu Fai Terrace and Mount Butler	via Cotton Tree Drive slip road, Harcourt Road, Gloucester Road, Canal Road flyover, Canal Road east and Queen's Road East.
GMB Route Nos. 6, 7 and 56	To Eastern and Southern Districts	via Cotton Tree Drive slip road, Harcourt Road, Gloucester Road, Canal Road flyover, Canal Road east and Leighton Road.

Appropriate traffic signs will be erected on site to guide motorists. The public transport operators will display notices to advise passengers on the above public temporary arrangements. Actual implementation of and adjustments to road closures, traffic control and public transport arrangement will be made by the Police at the time depending on actual conditions in the areas.

The public heading to the affected area is advised to plan their journey early and allow more travelling time to cater for unexpected delay. The public is also advised to avoid driving to the affected areas. For public transport commuters, they should pay attention to the arrangements of route diversions and suspension of stops. Motorists should exercise tolerance and patience in case of traffic congestion, take heed of instruction of the Police and watch out for the latest traffic news through media.
