Temporary Traffic and Transport Arrangements for

Tram Track Renewal Works on Johnston Road, Wan Chai

 

               Notice is hereby given that, to facilitate the tram track renewal works on Johnston Road in Wan Chai, the following temporary traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented from 10.30 a.m. on 16 October 2012 to 10.30 a.m. on 26 October 2012:-

 

(I)                 Temporary Traffic Arrangements

 

(A)        Road Closure

(i)      The section of Johnston Road westbound between Swatow Street and Tai Wong Street East will be temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic except for trams; and

(ii)     The section of Johnston Road westbound between Tai Wo Street and Swatow Street will be temporarily closed to vehicles exceeding 7 metres in length.

 

(B)       Traffic Diversion

(i)            Affected vehicles on Johnston Road westbound heading for Admiralty will be diverted via Wan Chai Road, Queen’s Road East, Morrison Hill Road, Tin Lok Lane and Hennessy Road;

(ii)          Affected vehicles on Wan Chai Road westbound heading for Admiralty will be diverted via Fleming Road and Hennessy Road;

(iii)         Affected vehicles exceeding 7 metres in length on Johnston Road westbound heading for Admiralty will be diverted via Tai Wo Street, Wan Chai Road, Queen’s Road East, Morrison Hill Road, Tin Lok Lane and Hennessy Road;

(iv)        All vehicles in Swatow Street, Amoy Street, Spring Garden Lane and Stone Nullah Lane will be temporarily prohibited from making left turn onto Johnston Road westbound;

(v)          Affected vehicles on Swatow Street, Amoy Street, Spring Garden Lane and Stone Nullah Lane heading for Admiralty will be diverted via Johnston Road eastbound, Fleming Road and Hennessy Road;

(vi)        All vehicles in Cross Street will be temporarily prohibited from making left turn into Tai Yuen Street; and

(vii)       The section of Tai Yuen Street between Cross Street and Johnston Road will be converted from one-way northbound traffic to one-way southbound traffic (except road closure time from 10.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. daily). Affected vehicles in Cross Street eastbound heading for Admiralty will be diverted via Wan Chai Road, Queen’s Road East, Morrison Hill Road, Tin Lok Lane and Hennessy Road .

 

(II)               Temporary Public Transport Arrangements

 

(A)        Tramway

 

The tram stop on Johnston Road westbound near Amoy Street will be relocated forward for about 30 metres to Johnston Road westbound near Swatow Street.

Wan Chai bound

via Wan Chai Road, Fleming Road, Lockhart Road westbound, Fenwick Street southbound and Johnston Road eastbound before resuming its original routeing in Ship Street.

The stop on Johnston Road westbound near Ship Street will be relocated to Ship Street near Johnston Road.

The stops outside nos. 76, 128 and 168 Johnston Road westbound will be temporarily suspended.  Passengers are advised to use the following stops:-

 

  •                Wan Chai Road westbound near Burrows Street
  •                Johnston Road eastbound outside Southorn Playground
  •                Johnston Road eastbound near Thomson Road

Route No. 35M

(Aberdeen (Shek Pai Wan) – Wan Chai (Johnston Road))

Wan Chai bound

via Queen’s Road East westbound and Tai Wong Street East before resuming its original routeing on Luard Road.

The stop on Johnston Road westbound opposite Southorn Playground will be temporarily suspended. Passengers are advised to use the stop on Johnston Road eastbound outside Southorn Playground.

 

 

        Appropriate traffic signs will be erected on site to guide motorists.  The public transport operators will display notices to advise passengers of the above public transport arrangements. 

Motorists are advised not to drive to the affected area.  Motorists should exercise tolerance and patience in cases of traffic congestion, follow the instruction given by the Police and watch out for the latest traffic news on radio and television.
