Trial for New Electronic Parking Device at the Selected On-street Parking Spaces Designated for the Disabled

embers of the public are advised that to enhance monitoring the proper use of On-street Parking Spaces Designated for the Disabled ("DPS"), the Transport Department will conduct a trial of using new electronic parking devices ("electronic parking devices") at the selected DPS at Po Tung Road Carpark in Sai Kung and Dundas Street near Kwong Wa Street in Mong Kok from 2 March 2024 10.00 a.m. to 30 April 2024 5.00 p.m.

     The electronic parking devices will be installed on the pavements of the selected DPS, and equipped with vehicle occupancy sensor, when a vehicle enters the DPS or park over 24 hours without moving, the electronic parking devices will take a photo at narrow and low angle at rear of the vehicle. With automatic license plate recognition technology, the electronic parking devices can record the time when vehicles enter and leave, and vehicle's registration mark.

     The electronic parking devices and related operational logistic system will strictly comply with the requirements of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance to ensure collection, processing and use of data comply with legal and regulatory requirements. The camera of the electronic parking devices will be adjusted to a low angle and only cover the dedicated DPS. The electronic parking device will only recognize vehicle registration mark of the parked vehicle that are registered for participation in the trial. In addition, all data collected will be properly encrypted, and the data and information collected in the trial will be used to train, adjust and improve the electronic parking devices to review the effectiveness.

     Proper warning signs will be erected in the vicinity of the aforesaid DPS to notify the drivers and the public of the trial of the electronic parking device.
