EXISTING AND PROPOSED TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE

Existing Transport Infrastructure
The existing road infrastructure and railways as at the end of 2003 are shown in Figures 1, and 2 and 3 respectively.

Major Road and Rail Infrastructure Projects
The major road infrastructure proposals on Hong Kong Island and in Kowloon, and in New Territories are shown in Figures 4 and 5 respectively. Details of the major projects under construction and feasibility study/detailed design are given in Tables 1.1 and 1.2 respectively.

The committed railway projects are shown in Figure 6 and listed in Table 1.3. They will provide the necessary additional capacity to meet future travel demand, and their functions are briefly described as follows. The Ma On Shan to Tai Wai Rail Link will provide convenient access to the Ma On Shan new town. The KCR Tsim Sha Tsui Extension will provide a second rail interchange between the KCR system (East Rail) and the MTR system at Tsim Sha Tsui. The Disneyland Resort Line (formerly known as Penny's Bay Rail Link) will tie in with the development of the Hong Kong Disneyland Theme Park in Lantau. The Sheung Shui to Lok Ma Chau Spur Line will relieve the existing congestion at Lo Wu Station and provide additional capacity to better meet the cross-boundary travel demand. Railway projects under planning are shown in Figure 6 and listed in Table 1.4.
