Transport Advisory Committee

The role of the Transport Advisory Committee is to advise the Chief Executive in Council on broad issues of transport policy with a view to improving the movement of both people and freight.  The Committee comprises a chairman and 17 members including three Government officials.  The Committee supervises the operation of the Transport Complaints Unit, which is responsible for receiving and handling complaints and suggestions from the public on transport and traffic matters.

The Committee holds regular meetings to discuss issues concerning major transport policies and road traffic legislation. Some of the major issues considered by the Committee in 2005 include proposed measures to be implemented for improving the regulation of non-franchised bus operation, Area Improvement Plan for Tsim Sha Tsui, Concept Plan for Lantau, Northwest New Territories Traffic and Infrastructure Review, enhancing the distribution of traffic at the three road harbour crossings, Disneyland Resort Line progress update and fares, proposed registration scheme for vehicle maintenance trade, progress update on Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, Mass Transit Railway West Island Line and South Island Line and Route 4, report of the Task Force on Emergency Transport Coordination, performance of the franchised bus companies in 2004, review on the composition, role and functions of the Transport Advisory Committee, report on parking demand and supply and progress of improvement measures, review of the basis for considering bus fare adjustments, special traffic and transport arrangements during the Sixth Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization, report of the Expert Panel on Sustainable Transport Planning and Central-Wan Chai Bypass, measures to enhance road safety and safety of public light bus operations, etc.
