The Taxi and Ride-hailing Vehicle Combined Written Test will be opened for application starting from 3 August 2026. The first batch of candidates are expected to take the combined written test from mid-September 2026 onwards. The arrangements for individuals who obtained a pass result in the Taxi Written Test are as follows:

1. May apply for a full driving licence for Taxi within three years from the passing date of the test and within a year of completion of the Pre-Service Course for Taxi Driver;
2. If the date of passing the Taxi Written Test is over 3 years at the time of application for the full driving licence for taxi, a candidate must take the Taxi and Ride-hailing Vehicle Combined Written Test before he or she may apply for a full driving licence for taxi and / or a ride-hailing vehicle driving permit.

Individuals already holding a valid taxi full driving licence may apply for a ride-hailing vehicle driving permit direct and is not required to take the Taxi and Ride-hailing Vehicle Combined Written Test.

The Taxi and Ride-hailing Vehicle Combined Written Test comprises two parts, all of which should be answered by candidates within the time limit. Below are the test criteria:

To score an overall 'PASS' result, a candidate must answer all questions within the time limit, and be able to meet the passing criteria in each of the two parts.

Part A: Taxi and Ride-hailing Vehicle Operation

This part is to test candidates' knowledge on (i) providing taxi and ride-hailing passenger transport service, and (ii) locations in Hong Kong, as well as the route planning capacity of candidates. Questions in this part are set based on the booklet "Taxi and Ride-hailing Vehicle Operation", and prepared by making reference to the "Hong Kong Guide" published by the Survey & Mapping Office of the Lands Department.

Part B: Road Users' Code

This part is to test the candidates' knowledge on road traffic regulations and safe driving. Questions are set based on the "Road Users' Code".

• The computerized Taxi and Ride-hailing Vehicle Combined Written Test is held at the written test centre of the Transport Department at Cheung Sha Wan Government Offices. Candidates may practice at the Kiosks located in the test centre before taking the test to get familiar with the operation of computerized writen test.

When attending the Taxi and Ride-hailing Vehicle Combined Written Test, candidates can choose Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese or English as the test language on the computer screen.

1. Copy of Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card for Hong Kong permanent residents / Hong Kong Identity Card for Hong Kong residents / passport or valid travel document for non Hong Kong residents (previously registered in the Transport Department; defaced or expired documents will not be accepted);
2. Valid full driving licence of Hong Kong; and
3. Test appointment letter

• After arriving at the Transport Department, please wait at the Driving Test Appointment Office lobby first.
• Please queue up to enter the written test waiting area according to the instructions of the staff, and switch off the mobile phone and all electronic devices with alarm functions (e.g. smart watches).
• In the written test waiting area, please pay attention to the test instructions explained by the invigilators, and then enter the examination room for registration as instructed by the invigilators.
• After completing the registration, candidates will be assigned to a computer. After settling down, candidates can follow the computer instructions to take the written test.
• After the test is finished, please pay attention to the instructions on the computer screen for collecting the results.
