Parking Meters   On-street parking spaces are provided where they do not obstruct traffic. Where there are limited spaces and a high demand, on-street parking spaces are metered to deter prolonged parking. Currently, there are about 18,000 metered parking spaces, most of them are available from 8 a.m. to midnight on weekdays, and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on general holidays.

All metered parking spaces in Hong Kong are now operated with Octopus card parking meters.

Starting from 1 October 2019, the stored value limit of Smart Octopus newly issued by Octopus Cards Limited (OCL) will be uplifted from HK$1,000 to HK$3,000.  The remaining value of the Octopus after payment of parking fee at parking meter could not be properly shown on the display of the meter if it is equal to or exceeds HK$1,000 due to system limitation.  Members of the public may check the remaining value via OCL's designated channels (e.g. Octopus App).
